Manufactured homes

What does your mind envision when you hear that term? I think in America, the phrase conjures up something less than ideal, something perhaps not as sturdy as a home built in place. In fact, it does not maintain its value in comparison with the built-in-place homes.

Now, the manufactured homes are not quite the same as modular homes; the historical Sears home is a modular home - from 1908 until about 1970, one could order their Sears home from a catalog and have all the parts delivered, which they would put together themselves (or, I imagine, arrange to have something else do it). You can read a little bit more about that here.

Now, take a gander at these incredible homes. These are made in Finland, where the reputation of a manufactured home is not quite the same. I discovered these homes through Rikka's blog. I am amazed at their beauty! I would like to order one, although it may not be worth the cost, having it shipped from Finland!

Those are fantastic. I think I'd take any one of them.
